One Word 2018

One Word 2018

One Word

Have you heard of the #oneword movement yet?  Essentially you choose one word that will be the focus for the year.  The idea is that once you have your focus you can then be intentional about your choices.

Deciding on one word you see as powerful for a whole year, not as easy as it sounds. I went through several words before settling on a feeling.

You know the one.  That feeling you get when things have been rough.  Maybe you’ve been stressed or just sat in the wrong position for too long (can I get an amen from my criss-cross sitting early ed teachers!?!). You realize you need to move.  The first movements don’t feel all that great.  You need to lean in to that feeling and stretch through it.  That’s the feeling I got stuck on.

All too often I wait to grow or try something new until I have thought it all through.  I want to think about every possible way a situation could play out before I make a move.  That inclination has served me well over the years.  It has helped me earn a Master’s degree, pay off debt, and even run a marathon.

But I began to wonder if I was really pushing myself as far as I could go. Am I truly being the best educator, mother, wife, HUMAN, I could be?

So this year I am determined to stretch through the discomfort of change and growth.  I want to really challenge myself to be more.  After all, our kids deserve it.
